Coaching Philosophy

Beyond the Scoreboard

Thirty-seven years produced a record. The record is on the Career page. This page holds what sat underneath it.

The inheritance

My dad, Jim Wacker, strived to live by four words. I kept them.

    My dad’s definition of “winning”

“Just do your best, don’t sweat the rest, and let ‘winning’ take care of itself!”
Legendary college football coach Jim Wacker used it with every team he led: Texas Lutheran, North Dakota State, Southwest Texas State, TCU, and Minnesota.

    Remembering Coach Jim Wacker

I am writing a book about my dad and his Four F’s. Did you play for him, coach with him, or know him? Share a memory, a story, or something he said.

    The Pyramid in Practice

Coach Wooden’s blocks, the way I taught them.

Coach Wooden’s Pyramid of Success hung in my office. I didn’t teach it in one speech. I came back to each block throughout the year, whenever practice or a game gave me the moment. Why Wooden’s book mattered to me

I take a small number of talks each year. Invite me to speak
